Introduction

The process of managing chronic pain, while unique to each person, involves moving through different steps. It is important to start with and optimize the foundation of chronic pain management before moving up the pyramid of care to the more complex steps. At the top of the pyramid of care, there are complex interventional procedures that may be offered to a youth living with chronic pain.

Learning Objectives

  • Understand the sequence of steps in managing chronic pain, starting at the base of the pyramid of care with conservative management and self management strategies. Then progress up the levels of the pyramid to more complex or interventional procedures. 
  • Identify some of the different types of interventional procedures.
